Unfortunately, gameplay is not the forte of RoR. I found that all bosses were fairly easy, especially when using a weapon with reach, such as the pipe. For any of the major battles, it simply becomes a matter of waiting for the enemy to attack, circling behind, and then striking a couple of times. Run away and repeat.
Much more difficult were the imp battles. Two dozen rabbits jumping toward you at once makes it hard to run away. (And yes, I’m totally thinking Monty Python here. Cute white rabbit–Run Away!)
I found the mermaid boss to be more difficult than Hoffman of course. As for the pipe, it didn’t do much on the mermaid boss, the meat cleaver seems to be better.
But yes you are right about the Imps, especialy those fish ones!
I hated those fish Imps!
I’m currently playing Rule of Rose and I’m in the Rag Princess Sews chapter and I’m following the child with Joshua the bear.
I’ve gotten to the point where you’re forced to fight rounds of imps. I only have a lollipop, a scone, and a piece of candy. I have all the standard weapons but I usually use the pipe or the cleaver.
I can get through the first round of 3 imps no problem, but the second one which has four and they have what looks like pitchforks usually kills me. If I can get through it, Brown is passed out and I’m limping. When I do limp to the next area, there’s 4 more imps and a pig monster! I cannot get through it and I’ve literally tried 17 times along with letting a couple of friends try. None of us can do it! This is maddening! I’ve never had to retry a part in a game so many times in my life.
I’ve tried going back through the ship and finding more health items but everywhere else is blocked off. Any tactics for this? Help would be greatly appreciated.
As far as health items go, do you know that you can exchange sets of ribbons, marbles, etc. for health items at the gift box?
See my blog-post Gremlin Imp. Get the sledgehammer from it (that imp can’t harm you). That weapon should be better than what you’ve been using.
If you use a long weapon like a pipe, try using a corner location and add the use of Brown as a partial blockade (like a wall that imps can’t go through) so that you can control the small area remaining by which the imps must approach.
If you use a fast weapon, like the cleaver, try a zigzag, weaving, hit-and-run approach. Attack from the side or rear, hit and run. You can’t run far, but the imps—if I recall correctly—have a slow reaction time to changes of location, and you can make use of that.
Thanks! Unfortunately I can’t go back to the gift box because the children block you in the area. I can go down into engine 3 but I didn’t see anything while I was there. I’ll try again and I will try to use your tactics.
I think that if you empty out the “FIND” slot, and press that button (for “FIND”) on your controller, you get some extra help from Brown during battles. You might want to try playing with that too.
Not sure which Chapter, as I’ve not picked up the game for months. Bosses ALWAYS sour me to a game. Bosses are never essential, add limited importance to a story, and when you buy a game for enjoyment and the solving of puzzles and a mystery, Bosses just twist the game into a 1980’s throwback arcade game where the manufacturers just want you to keep adding quarters…
Anyway, the part of the game where you have to kill two pigs, two goats, two rats etc. to unlock a door. I get killed without fail EVERY time…
PLEASE, can anyone tell me which rooms are strategic and whether or not I’m supposed to kill the twenty rabbits or just the rats, which rooms NOT to go in, best place to stand, etc. Bear in mind my best weapon is the shovel…
I’m ready to throw this game in the garbage, so a big thanks to any and all that can help me save it…
Stay out of the Classroom! It isn’t necessary to go there, you will get locked in, and the bird imp is VERY difficult to beat. But DO kill the imp in the hallway just outside of the classroom and get its food item. This imp will re-spawn every time that you leave that hallway, allowing you to return and kill it again for another food item. It is your source for infinite health in The Funeral chapter.
Go down to the Cell of Remorse and get the axe. I think it is a better weapon than the shovel.
You only have to kill the rat imp, not the rabbit imps, in the dormitory; notice that there is a short cut-scene showing the door being unlocked immediately after you kill the rat imp.
In The Funeral chapter, you need to kill: rat in kitchen, rat in dormitory, pig in sewing room, goat in library, then finish up with goat and pig together at the foyer by the front door.
~
If you want to replay the game to leisurely look for clues, by the way, it is worthwhile to do a play-through in which you collect all of the knives necessary, and get the rusty sword. Then on the next play-through you can collect the rusty sword from the rubbish bin and exchange it for the knight rapier. Then keep saves at the beginning of every chapter. The knight rapier is the most awesome weapon of all: kills the mermaid-boss in just a few hits. Even infinite imp spawnage, like the infinite goat imps of the library in the Goat Sisters chapter, is no sweat.
I am victorious!!! Thanks PN. Surprising the speed at which the Stray Dog battle comes after the Imp Attack, but I was so pumped to be back in the game, he was no trouble…
There are records in there during the night funeral chapter. I have had Brown look for them and he went in there. I was able to make it appear on the floor but was unable to retrieve it because of the imps.
I forgot about that. I can see the problem. The classroom during that time may give one the toughest battles of the entire game. The bird-imp there is, in my opinion, a good villain on which to use up all of the bullets of the gun (if you have bothered to obtain the gun and seek out bullets).
I have a question, and I thought that maybe I can get the answer here
I tried to get the four perfumes, I followed walktroughs and everything
But no matter how hard I tried; it didn’t work?
How am I supposed to do it?
Or is it something wrong with my copy of the game?
Hi.
For must defeat pig and imps ; i guess you are in the central stairway D during october.
If you need more health, outside the elevator, there was a lolipop, if you missed it, you can go back grab it.
In the first area (with the first battle when the boy tells you he want to keep the teddy bear)
there is a chocolate just there ; and two white chocolate on the far left side of the area.
In the next section, there is one of each on the bottom right, and two shortbreads on the top on the map (where corridors are broken in both cases)
In the same area as the fierce battle, at the “crossroad” with two ways broken, there is one last shortbread and last white chocolate.
If you don’t have anything to find chocolates or shortbread left, remember you can exchange lot of marbles/ribons/ and other junk for food at the box.
For the batle itself, if you have a powerful weapon, you can try to quickly kill the little imps first, avoiding the pig.
Otherwise, short or long weapon, try not to do a full combo, it gives too much time for the pig to charge. One or two hits, and run, avoid, and hit again in the back. Cowards leave longer, even when they have to fight. Also, try not to hit when an imp is lying down, oftenly, jennifer tries to step on him instead of hitting the big ennemy close. Hope that might help.
For crimsonvalley. I think i can guess what your problem is. You probably already know you need a candy so that brown can find the spring perfume. And i guess using it you did found quickly summer and fall.
If you can’t find winter at all in the dressing room, it’s because it won’t “appear” till october. Till then, you can leave the three others in the bin.
Candy -> spring in the working class luggage -> summer in the vip room -> fall in the library -> winter in the dressing room, but not till october for this one.
Hope that might help.
If getting a good weapon would help, in the Rag Princess Sews chapter you can get a sledgehammer. See Gremlin Imp.
If you are fighting in the crossroads “trap”, there are two different tactics I’ve used successfully:
(1) With a long-range weapon, use Brown as a protective wall so that imps can only reach you through one narrow area that your weapon controls. This is a relatively non-moving tactic.
(2) With a quick weapon, run around a lot trying to avoid getting directly in front of imps. Hit them from the side. Hit and run, hit and run, moving constantly.
I can find the Summer perfume but no other’s
(I tried to play by this guide)
Either Brownjust shakes his head when I try or he tries to go into a room I can’t go into
@CrimsonValley
Three of the perfumes are found in the Sir Peter chapter.
In order to find the first perfume (Spring), you need to use “Candy” for Brown to search with (at the beginning of the “Sir Peter” chapter) until Brown leads you to the Spring perfume. After that, use “Spring” to find “Summer”. Then use “Summer” to find “Autumn”.
The fourth perfume, “Winter”, is found in the “Rag Princess Sews” chapter. Turn all four in to unlock the secret door and enter that door early in the “Rag Princess Sews”, and exchange all of the items that you can, because you can’t do any of that at the end of the chapter or during any later chapters.
Either Brown just shakes his head when I try or he tries to go into a room I can’t go into
If Brown shakes his head, it may only mean that you need to try the search again at a different location that might be closer to the item you are searching for. With all of your searches, you need to repeat the process of trying to find things whenever you have moved into a different area.
If Brown leads you to a door that you cannot pass through, you may need to use your own ingenuity to try to get to where Brown is trying to go by a different route. Brown doesn’t know what doors are unlocked, he is just following his nose.
There is a YouTube video, RoR Reloaded: Rare Scavenger Hunt pt 1 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nC0MAAQVpY8) by Rain1024 that says that biscuit leads to ribbon, ribbon leads to sock, sock leads to clothespin, and clothespin leads to candy. He claims that you MUST find these items in that order, but I don’t know if that is true, or if clothespin is the only way to find candy, but you should have a biscuit from the “Unlucky Clover Field” chapter (the “Find” tutorial) and you can quickly get the other items by following that order in the “Sir Peter” chapter.
It’s A Trap
@PokerNemesis,
I have found out that it is still possible to get Spring,Autum, and Fall during the mermaid princess but you must have a candy and you must find them before using the fish scale to find the fish head. I post this for your general knowlegde should anyone ask the same question later.
On another topic I was wondering if it was at all possible to find the special Knieves without starting over.
Can you tell I am a RoR noob or what!!!

Really? I don’t think I’ve done that yet. Thanks a lot for all your help.
I tried to get the sledgehammer but it turns out that I can only enter engine 5, not 3. I’ve tried going back but the doors are blocked with kids.
With most any game there’s a danger with only keeping the most recent save… especially when you are low on health items.
Haha yeah I definitely should have kept a few save files. Silly me.
Can anyone HELP!

Have you consulted the Item FAQ?

It’s A Trap
Does anyone know where I can find the candy to find the first PERFUME in the Sir Peter chapter
Welcome, AdmiralAckbar!
I was wondering since I am already past “Sir Peter” if I can still get the Perfumes. Thank you for your time.
@AdmiralAckbar,
I don’t think it is still possible.
It’s A Trap
@PokerNemesis,
I have found out that it is still possible to get Spring,Autum, and Fall during the mermaid princess but you must have a candy and you must find them before using the fish scale to find the fish head. I post this for your general knowlegde should anyone ask the same question later.
