Hello PokerNemesis! First of all, sorry my bad english… I would like to congratulate you for this excellent site, and for your efforts for enlighten us the mysteries surrounding this great game!
I personally find sorrowful the fact of the game creators just don’t manifest themselves about what they mean, and fill once for all the plot’s gaps that make all of us confused. My opinion is: this great game could not stay with so many doubts in the story, we should have ways to find the all the truth without any kind of doubts.
I enjoy so much to read your posts and the comments from the others visitors, but I’m affraid I cannot contribute with any idea or theory… sorry! You have figured out everything we need to know!
I think Kaoleen meant what country PN was in. She doesn’t seem to speak fluent english and is probably wondering why this site, on a japanese game, is in english. ^^()
I’m not bilingual myself, so I have to marvel at those who try to learn English. I’m told it’s the hardest language to learn for someone who speaks another language.
Hello and thank you so much for this awesome website. My name is Anne and I’m from Romania. I wanna tell you that i need the Little Princess and The goat Princess books, because on their site I can’t download them. I will be very happy if you have these books. I need them very much.
Thank you for your understand and keep a good work.
I guess I have to respond to the question by Anonymous too.
Masq is exactly right in the fact that RoR tells a fascinating story. Most games don’t have much of a plot or story for that matter. You go out, kill things and that’s it. RoR is one of the few games of this genre in which you can AVOID combat for the most part. There are only a few instances in which you HAVE to fight to advance in RoR. Most of the time you can avoid combat because your opponents are too slow or awkward to present an obstacle.
RoR also makes your mind work to figure out the puzzles. When was the last time that you had to figure out something in the very popular GTA series?
BTW, Masq, as an educator I agree with your statement about English being extremely difficult to learn. In our schools in the U.S. there are normally classes in ESL (English as a Second Language). Added to that the fact that kaoleen mentioned in an earlier comment that she was less than twelve years old kind of precludes the possibilty of being a “stalker”.
Clarification:
I didn’t mean to imply that Masq suggested that kaoleen was a stalker. She actually defended kaoleen. Someone else brought up that subject.
But it is rather awkward, especially considering the bad reputation (even if unjustified) of Rule of Rose, to know how to deal with a ten year old who professes love in the manner of the comments #1 and #2 of the comments thread of the “walkthroughs” menu.
Considering that it’s obvious English isn’t her first language (although she grasps it fairly well. Most young Americian typers would have had about fifty acronyms in there), I guess I’m a little niave in trying to translate.
I’d like to think that most people who post here don’t have malicious intentions. There are exceptions, of course, but considering the game itself is so far from mainstream popularity, I suspect one would actually have to LOOK to find this place.
As for what Kaoleen says in her posts, I think its fairly obvious what she’s saying. (Maybe it’s because I work with kids so much?)
“I love your website very much! Jennifer is so beautiful! Thank you for this website!”
This one’s obvious.
“I like you goodbye.”
In context, I think she means this as a form of gratitude. She appreciates the hard work you’ve put into this. Considering you have posts that exclaim how long you’ve been doing this, I’m sure she’s just as in awe as the rest of us that you haven’t given up and that you are still just as passionate about this game.
Maybe the wording is a little akward, but take it in stride. ^^- World Wide Web, PN. You’re gonna get some akward translations every once in a while.
Wow! I can see the apprehension that you feel PN. At the same time I can see your discomfort about the subject. The world isn’t as simple (or innocent) a place as it once was. Even the smallest thing can be taken out of context. I don’t talk much about it, but I have experienced similar situations as a teacher where an innocent comment is taken wrong or can cause discomfort.
PN, I apologize if it seemed like I was making light of your uneasiness.
Hello PokerNemesis! First of all thank you for your efforts by making this site simply the BEST ROR site over the whole www!!! And sorry my bad English…
I have just two topics about ROR, the second one is specially for you:
1 – Did anyone find ALL those filmcans scattered in the charpters? After find all of them, did anyone watch the film in “Once upon…” charpter? No worry about spoilers – what is this film about?
2 – After reading for so many hours the tags, comments, theories etc, these informations almost blow my mind. So, dear PokerNemesis, DON’T YOU THINK that punchline IS HURTING US BAD??? DON’T YOU THINK the time has come to THEY ENLIGHTEN OUR DOUBTS AND GAPS AND THEORIES etc etc ONCE FOR ALL??? They are torturing us all, don’t you agree?
Thank you once again for your attention! Best regards!!
1 – I have collected all the filmcans and watched the movies. There is nothing new. It just provides a way to see the cutscenes again (and the pre-game vid too, if I recall correctly).
2 – I think the game developers want people to have fun creatively generating theories (which is sort of like writing fan-fic, in a way) and discussing these theories.
I wouldn’t mind the game developers giving answers. Even though it would remove any need for this blog, I wouldn’t mind. It isn’t like I generate an income with this blog. I use no advertising.
On the other hand, it might be unfair to many people who have bought the game, or who might buy the game in the future, for the developers to reveal the answers to the mysteries. The re-play value of the game—in my opinion—is NOT to found in the desire to repeat the gameplay challenges over and over (does anyone one yearn for another battle with the mermaid-boss?), but rather is to be found in returning to look for new clues and finding overlooked details. I’ve had to re-play a lot. A lot. And I think that many readers of this blog have likely re-played the game more than they would have if there were not mysteries to discuss. That is re-play value.
hiya. this is an awesome site. i just recently beat the game and had alot of questions, i’ve spent quite a long time pouring over the blogs the past few days. Great ideas and thoughts. now i’m working on my second time through the game.
I really enjoyed this thank you very much. I know most people love Jennifer but I found myself more in favor of Wendy, I really cared for her character and although what she did was quiet cruel and drastic. If you look at it in her point of view she felt as if Jennifer was abandoning her she was just a child. I love the game!
Hi there, Zena *Points up* was actually the one who got me into this game. We stayed up all night playing it [no joke, we actually did] and it was an AMAZING game. Actually, after beating it, I kinda understood it but not really, so I went searching and viola! I found this place. I stayed up real late one night, reading all your blogs and I gotta say, it cleared up some things. Thanks for the awesome site and keep it going!
I just wanted to say thank you so much for taking the time to create and maintain this amazing website. I had never heard of Rule of Rose until I came across a video on Youtube while looking for help with a Fatal Frame game. I fell in love with the music and knew I had to give it a try. I took me a good 3 months to find the game (Ebay was selling it for obscene prices) and actually stumbled upon it at a store that was going out of business and got it for $18! I quickly became engrossed in the story and couldn’t wait to find out what happened next. What the game lacked in melee combat it made up exponentially with an enthralling plot and sad but touching story. I am a Silent Hill and Fatal Frame girl, but Rule of Rose has definitely made me appreciate the story behind a survival/horror game more. I discovered that the slashfest enjoyed in most of these types of games tends to take precedence over a good story, however, with this game that was not the case at all.The attention to detail and little meanings that are shown in a very subtle way truly make this game a masterpiece in and of itself. I have come to your website often and read the many theories and appreciate your insight as well as others who share their theories too. Thanks again so much!! ~Holly

I must say wow PokerNemesis, you have created quite the website!
I just bought RoR, and have proudly beat it on the 7th day. ^_^ Ive spent probably about 3 hours just reading the treasure trove of information on your website. so basically..thank you for making it. its so fun to read all thats on here and I think I understand it better than ever now. ^_^
Hmm, I wonder if anyone is going to see this because no one has posted a comment on this thread for a while. Anyways, first off, I just wanted to agree with the sentiments expressed by the many others before me and say thanks for all the amazing work you’ve done analyzing the story of Rule of Rose and posting all the details and theories you encounter. My favorite blog-post or series of blog-posts of yours would have to be the one about Clara, the frightened princess/mermaid princess. My first impressions after getting through the game the first time were that, yes, Hoffman very likely did some inappropriate things to Clara, and I thought that was the end of it. But then after reading about your theories regarding a possible pregnancy and subsequent abortion, I was very much at a loss for words. I had not found those bloody medical tools and gloves, had not paid too much heed to the cupboard that Clara was trying to keep hidden from Jennifer, and did not look closely at the wiping Clara was doing in the Funeral chapter; so I was blown away by the amount of detail and implicit information I had missed and the fact that there is still a large part of the big picture that I do not fully grasp. This blog has definitely motivated me to go back and examine the story and the world of Rule of Rose more carefully.
Haha, sorry for the long post, but there is one last thing I wanted to say (it is more of a rant that I wanted to get off my chest, and my apologies if this is totally the wrong place to say it). I am very frustrated with the bad publicity and the lukewarm to negative reviews that Rule of Rose has received. I thought it was a beautiful game with an intricate plot, a scenic environment that rewarded your exploration with details important to the plot, and music that was both enjoyable and appropriate in setting the atmosphere and emotion of the scenes. It is quite obvious (this blog is one testament to this fact) that the creators of Rule of Rose put a lot of thought and effort into making this game, and I feel there is one other tragedy behind the story of Rule of Rose, that being the lack of recognition and appreciation that this game so deserves. And from what I can tell, the original developing team, Punchline, is no longer active and will not be working on other great projects similar to Rule of Rose. I see this situation as tragic as well because Rule of Rose seems to be one-of-a-kind, and I don’t think we will be seeing many other games like it EVER (Of course, I really hope that I am wrong). The bad publicity and the absence of sufficient favorable reviews for the game very likely led to the falling apart of Punchline and will likely contribute to the reluctance on the part of game developers to create games that can be considered works of art. I feel what policymakers, newspapers, and gaming periodicals in Europe and around the world did to Rule of Rose is unjust and tragic.
Anyways, sorry again for the long post; this was my first post, and I had a lot on my mind. Thanks again for all the excellent material, PN, and please keep it up.
One of the reasons I decided to create this blog was that I felt that Rule of Rose might be in danger of being very under-appreciated if I did not. And I thought it would be a sad thing if that happened.
i love your website very much and jennefer is so beautiful thank you for this website

Thank yooooooooou so much
i want to now that waye you love rule of rose story whay you like it so much
Why? Because it’s a facinating story with beautiful, deep characters.
And it keeps my mind going. ^_^- I don’t like games that are “dumb”.
I guess I have to respond to the question by Anonymous too.

There is not a Rule of Rose, Part 2. And I would be very surprised if there ever was a sequel, or related game, made.
Tis a shame, too! So much could have been done with a little more effort.

One of the reasons I decided to create this blog was that I felt that Rule of Rose might be in danger of being very under-appreciated if I did not. And I thought it would be a sad thing if that happened.
I was reading a story from a site about the rule of rose… someone made it up was it on here? It was very good…
