The text of the May 8 entry is very difficult to read. So I thought it might be a good idea to temporarily skip over it and go directly to the May 9 entry of the shared diary in hope that an understanding of the May 9 entry might help us to read the May 8 entry when we come back to it.

As I think that the drawing found on the page of the May 8 entry might relate to the text of the May 9 entry, I have included that drawing above.

I propose that the text of the May 9 entry reads:

May 9

Please, Oh please,
may they guide us true!

W

I think that sense may be made of this reading of the text by referring to the May 8 drawing. In that drawing we see some sort of trail of black dots extending from the rose garden to some labeled thing(s) that is(are) red colored. Can you read (or make a guess at the reading of) the label?

At any rate, I think that it might be whatever-it-is-that-the-black-dots-represent that W hopes will guide them (W and J) true so that they will successfully reach (or find) the labeled thing(s). Or perhaps help them (W and J) to go successfully from the labeled thing(s) to the garden at night?

Please help us figure this out if you can.

Edit: Every time I look at the picture I see a different word so I withdraw my opinion on page 8’s labeled picture (lower right). The letters look to me like t-h-r-a-n-r-a-t-u. Which doesn’t make a bit of sense.

Ambiguous pictures aside, do you think Wendy has suffered incredible psychological trauma due to Joshua’s death? Now that it’s confirmed that she and Joshua had a relationship, I noticed that even though Jennifer mentions that Gregory simply calls her Joshua and that her name is jennifer, Wendy persists to call her a prince. It looks like she’s displacing her feelings on Jennifer and that she never really had feelings for her. Hell, she’s punishing Jennifer for not living up to her late ideal Joshua .

I would rather read chocolate. I’d rather find strange that wendy would know such a word as inamorata. Is it latin or italian ? amora is love indeed.

About what wendy feels for jennifer, i don’t believe it could have been what you say.
If this diary is not in the game, it is because it was not meant too (i assume), and in regard of what we saw until there, exept a different link between joshua boy and joshua teddy bear that the one we know in game, the story between joshua and wendy here reminds me too much of the one lived between wendy and jennifer. Thus, i think the repeating story (thought it was maybe meant to be during a time) is not the one we should understand as the true past we don’t know about.

I’m mainly defending Wendy against the idea of such a sick relationship, but it might indeed be an element. I still think the fact that the story would have been somehow repeated is strange. Exept, maybe, if it was at first intended to be an item found in the cellar, instead of the letters between jennifer and wendy, and thus, being an early version of the letters exchanged between them.

After all, jennifer don’t seem to remind much about the airplane crash, so she probably forgot her name too. And so she can very well think to be joshua.

  3. Lexzl says:

The reason I don’t believe this could possibly be Jennifer is because the airship went missing June 23rd. We know Jennifer was a survivor of the Airship crash so I don’t think she was in Gregory’s company until after these diary entries were made.

Also, I agree that it doesn’t seem like inamorata is a word Wendy would know. As it turns out May 8th was written by Joshua but I don’t believe he’d know the word either. I edited my post while you were reading that I suppose. But chocolate doesn’t seem to fit the scribble either. I just took a look at the original photo from pennywise and it does look very much like the word chocolate. When I first saw the picture I thought it was the october ticket but that seems stupid in retrospect. I then changed my mind to a kiss. Chocolate however being used as a trail marker makes much more sense and explains why it’s the best healing item.

  4. Lussh says:

maybe it was easyer to rewrite some dates than to redraw a diary ?

  5. PokerNemesis says:

My intention is to save my full discussion of the possibilities available for the identity of J in this diary until after completing my presentation of all of the pages of the diary (only May 8 remains), but I will point out—lest people get too carried away in the mean time—that there is no year ascribed to any of these diary entries and it hasn’t been confirmed that the date of these entries is May 1929. Jennifer began living at the orphanage in March 1930 and she apparently didn’t find Brown until July 1930, so she should have been on quite good terms with Wendy during May 1930. It seems to me that Jennifer is a contender, at the very least, for being the “Joshua” who is J.

  6. Lexzl says:

@Luush, that’s possible, but I’d rather consider things as though they were not done in error.

    Time to get carried away!

I really want this to be the original Joshua so I’m defending that theory. Assuming the above picture really is of a piece of chocolate used to mark the trail, then consider this diary entry from Gregory:

    Tuesday, June 10. Clear skies.
Joshua has been misbehaving. He went and ate sweets out of the cupboard without
    permission.

It’s not terribly unthinkable that orphans would sometimes get treats at the orphanage, but nevertheless they are orphans. I would think their access to them is very limited. Joshua, however, might have stolen them out of the cupboard and used them as trail markers every so often.

Also, why the reintroduction in the diary? It could very likely just be a game between the two of them, but if Jennifer and Wendy were already on good terms, why not continue their Prince & Princess fantasy in the letters they were sharing?

  7. Corey says:

The ‘map’ on the diary entry “May 8″ reminds me of “Strange Hill East & West” well, as far as the path that is marked. The red thing on the end (the right) of the path, I think this could be the rickety shed/shack. The house at the other end is Gregory’s house with the rose garden in the back. If it isn’t the rickety shed, then my next guess would be a chocolate cake. It should be my first guess anyway, because under it, the only letters I can make out are “late”, I could assume the first letters could be “choco”, but to me, it doesn’t seem to fit… why would they draw a sort of map, that leads away from Gregory’s house, to find a chocolate cake or any form of sweet? Also, it doesn’t look like the first letters “c-h-o-c-o” are even in the word with the “l-a-t-e” at the end…. From a first glance, that’s what it looks like.

  8. Lussh says:

In the article about page eight ; Mokgrok said :

“I know what the bottom of the entry says. It’s in the Rule of Rose manual on page 4, below the Preface. I believe it’s Gregory’s house (the Gingerbread House) and the rose garden outside it, with a trail with the words “sweet street” along it, ending with a bar of chocolate.”

And indeed it is. It was a nice catch.

  9. Mokgrok says:

I wrote this in the next shared diary entry (8):

I know what the bottom of the entry says. It’s in the Rule of Rose manual on page 4, below the Preface. I believe it’s Gregory’s house (the Gingerbread House) and the rose garden outside it, with a trail with the words “sweet street” along it, ending with a bar of chocolate. This probably isn’t much help, but I just wanted to contribute due to my absence.

    I’m at school as of now, so I can’t fully log into my account. ^^;
