See-all Walkthrough, With Commentary: “The Little Princess” Chapter (Part 30a): The Filth Room: Jennifer Doll
Posted by PokerNemesis in CluesIf you stand Jennifer in front of the doll that is tied to the central pillar, and press “x” only once, you get a subtitle that reads:
…There’s a creepy doll tied to the pillar.
There are features of this doll that lead the player to connect the doll with Jennifer: both wear grey with a white collar, both have a red object at the base of the throat, and the knee-sock and shoe on one leg of the doll resembles the knee-socks and shoes that Jennifer can be seen to be wearing.
Press “x” a second time and the head of the doll droops forward, the controller vibrates, and we hear Wendy-as-Joshua give a sinister sounding laugh.
You can see a You Tube video of this scene here (at the very beginning of the video): Jennifer doll tied to pillar.
It has been proposed that the face of this doll is the face of an animal, perhaps even Joshua-the-bear’s face (considering that Jennifer has some symbolic associations with Joshua-the-bear). I can certainly see how that impression can arise. But I think that this is either just a quirk of the camera angle, or else we must argue that the face of this doll is different from that of the other Jennifer doll faces that we can view.
What are the other times we can view the face of a Jennifer doll?
You can see Amanda beating a Jennifer doll in the “Rag Princess Sews” chapter. Here is a YouTube video of that scene: Amanda beating a Jennifer doll. Watch the scene from 8:45 to the end of the video if you want context, but freeze the frame at 10:16. This doll face does not look animal-like to me.
Another time that you can get a look at the face of a Jennifer doll is if you get the Jennifer doll bonus costume during a re-play after beating the game (and starting from the save of the beaten game).
I don’t know of any You Tube video that shows this bonus costume, but I can describe a location in the game where a player, using this costume, can get a fairly good look its face. In the airship, stand Jennifer directly in front of the door leading to the Sector 9 Turbine Area from the Sector 8 Cargo Bay Area—Jennifer should be on the Sector 8 side of the door. This gives a pretty good close-up camera angle by which to view the face of the Jennifer doll. Again, it doesn’t look like an animal face to me.
Does a Jennifer doll actually play a role in Jennifer’s forgotten past, or is it only a part of Jennifer’s nightmare?
To be continued…

I believe a Jennifer doll may have been part of her past, but not something like that.
I think it would probably have been a small voodoo doll, not a large size as the one in the video (I can’t imagine Amanda actually together at that size) and certainly not wearing the same clothes 19 year-old Jennifer is wearing. And actually, the face of the doll reminds me of Tomas’s bag from ‘The Orphanage’; weird nose, not much hair…
I don’t really think that this doll plays a part in Jennifer’s past…it’s just a simple symbolization of how she was continuously treated (for example being tied up in the airship). And Amanda kicking or beating I suppose–well, that must just be also how she was treated. That’s the only connection I got from that.
Welcome, Kali!
Thank you, I am very interested in your blog. It is quiet informing! I must retire for tonight but I’ll keep up to date with this.
Wanted to point out, The doll is in the same exact position as Jennifer was during the start the clover field chapter.

Very true. But don’t forget Jennifer’s situation at the beginning of “The Funeral” chapter too. As “The Funeral” chapter instance of Jennifer being tied up in the Filth Room occurs in the orphanage rather than the airship (as in “The Clover Field” chapter), I tend to think this might be closest to the actual memory from her past that inspired all of the dream instances of Jennifer, or a Jennifer doll, that we see tied up in this manner in the Filth Room.
