In Jennifer’s forgotten past, the orphans were killed by Gregory Wilson, a. k. a. Stray Dog, at the Rose Garden Orphanage, with Jennifer being the sole survivor.

~

And in the “Orphanage World” of Jennifer’s dream, the orphans are again killed by Gregory Wilson, a. k. a. Stray Dog at the Rose Garden Orphanage, with Jennifer being the sole survivor.

~

In the “Airship World” of Jennifer’s dream, however, Jennifer relives the last days of the orphans through the distortion of the fantasy that the orphans had used at the Rose Garden Orphanage during their last days: pretending to be on an airship flying to India.

Jennifer’s dream recreation of this fantasy-play of the orphans is colored by her own experience, during her forgotten past, of having actually been on an airship flying to India that crashed (with Jennifer being the sole survivor).

As Jennifer dreams the “Airship World” she remembers (partially) that the orphans are doomed and are inevitably going to die… so the dream reflects this by having the airship of the “Airship World” moving toward a destiny of coming apart (hence the need for rope everywhere to try to hold the airship together and secure the things within the airship) and inevitably crashing (which we will not be shown, but which is implied to be coming). When the orphans die in the real world, their fantasy of an airship voyage to India will die as well.  So Jennifer’s dream of the “Airship World” recreates that approaching doom in airship-terms: an approaching crash.

In the “Airship World”, Jennifer’s dream attributes the pending crash of the airship, and the pending doom of the orphans, to the actions of what I have called the gremlin imp… an imp that Jennifer finds attacking one of the engines of the airship with a sledge hammer.  See my blog-post:  Gremlin Imp.

But Jennifer also finds this newspaper article in the Smoking Room of the airship that foreshadows the approaching doom of the orphans in terms of the “Orphanage World” and of Jennifer’s forgotten past:

20 December 1930

A tragic multiple homicide has occurred at an orphanage in Cardington resulting in the deaths of all the children housed there.
Among the dead was one adult, Gregory M. Wilson, a local resident.
Analysis of the crime scene suggests that Wilson shot himself with a pistol.
Police have identified him as their prime suspect in the murders of the children.

(Smoking Room, Sir Peter chapter, Goat Sisters chapter, newspaper)

The above is part of my theory about how these three different stories of the orphans’ doom inter-relate.

To read of how the doom of the orphans as seen in the “Orphanage World” of Jennifer’s dream may differ from the story of the true events of Jennifer’s forgotten past, see my previous blog-posts:

About your “Daily Flamingo.” I have come to agree that may not be a real newspaper…

I looked up “Flamingo” and found this…

    Species Geographic location
Greater Flamingo (P. roseus) Old World Parts of Africa, S. Europe and S. and SW Asia (most widespread flamingo).
Lesser Flamingo (P. minor) Africa (e.g. Great Rift Valley) to NW India (most numerous flamingo).
Chilean Flamingo (P. chilensis) New World Temperate S. South America.
James’s Flamingo (P. jamesi) High Andes in Peru, Chile, Bolivia and Argentina.
Andean Flamingo (P. andinus) High Andes in Peru, Chile, Bolivia and Argentina.
American Flamingo (P. ruber) Caribbean and Galapagos islands.

You think maybe like “one horned Peter; the miraj” that the “Daily Flamingo” was a product of the orphan’s gossip and looking up wildlife in India?

    May or may not be… really though… if it’s in Europe… I can’t think of a reason that the bird wouldn’t be a name of a newspaper…

Also, something else that might link them to the Orphans directly…

Young flamingos hatch with grey plumage, but adults range from light pink to bright red due to aqueous bacteria and beta carotene obtained from their food supply. A well-fed, healthy flamingo is more vibrantly coloured and thus a more desirable mate. A white or pale flamingo, however, is usually unhealthy or malnourished. Captive flamingos are a notable exception; many turn a pale pink as they are not fed carotene at levels comparable to the wild. This is changing as more zoos begin to add prawns and other supplements to the diets of their flamingos.

When they are children they are gray… and when they grow up they become scarlet… sounds kind of like the games, doesn’t it?

    LMAO… :D

And nobody ever got it? Funny…

You re-created the ROR style of rose-drawing very well too.

And thanks for the Dedication… I’m blushing.

    lol ^_^- That’s cute.

I wonder if they’d have noticed if you used the rose on the cover of the game.. with the thorns and all? XDD Ah… but the world may never know.

    Very creative. ^_^-

Kinda Random but since this talks about the air ship-
I just started playing through the game, and my boyfriend was watching me and noticed something in the beginning of the 1st air ship chapter

Section 8 is mentioned, and it says large luggage is stored there. Well my boyfriend knows a bunch of military stuff and said that section 8 deals with mental disorders…..and since Jenifer is dealing with her memories it kinda fits.

    Welcome, Rai!

That’s an interesting suggestion. I’ll give it some thought.

With luggage being excess memories or other such stuff that can be stored until needed.
    I like.

  9. Tribune says:

I think I may have asked this before, but I don’t remember for certain… I know I thought about asking it but don’t remember if I did… Anyway, if Jennifer was at Gregory’s house before the orphanage, and if her airship did crash, killing everyone in it, why does she have a suitcase at the orphanage? It’s unlikely that she would be able to find it after the airship crash and just as unlikely that Gregory gave her one, so where did it come from?
Also, why did Mr. Hoffman so willingly let a girl into the orphanage without any of the assumed necesary paperwork? Or were things a little less strict when it came to adopting children back then?

  10. PokerNemesis says:

    Answering Tribune,

Jennifer left Gregory’s house on January 28, but didn’t arrive at the orphanage until sometime in March.

    “27 January

    From W to J

Tomorrow night, I shall unlock your shackles. Let us live together forever.

    everlasting

    true love

    i am yours”

    (“Gingerbread House” Cellar Bedroom, cradle?)

    “Sunday, March 2

I don’t know what’s wrong with me. Was it something I did? Last month I failed. What will happen to me this month? Mr. Hoffman said that a new girl is coming soon. Will I even lose to her and be all miserable? I’m scared. I hate to think what’s in store for me.”

(“Rag Princess Sews”, Working Class Luggage, Amanda’s diary)

    ~

Wendy presumably took Jennifer to where Jennifer could turn herself in to the authorities. I imagine she was given a few possessions, and a suitcase to keep them in, by the authorities during her stay with them. The authorities presumably failed, after about a month of trying, to find anything else to do with Jennifer except place her at the local orphanage. This was, apparently, what Wendy expected would occur.

Thanks for the answer. It makes a lot more sense now.

  12. I’ve noticed a few comments that were confused about the airship “deaths” of the orphans recently, so this is good that you’ve explained.

Speaking of my reading of older posts… I’ve offically read every single one! ^_^ *curtseys* Now that I’ve read all of them, I can’t wait for more. HeH.

And I kind of wish I had the game to attempt to play… even by myself. Maybe I’m getting braver? Haha. Still waiting for it to come into GameCrazy for me.

Wow… that’s a lot to have read. Hats off to you!

I guess I’ll have to get cracking on the next post.

  15. Did you special order it? It may not ever come otherwise.

Yes, I did. They said they’d send out a message to all the other stores to find it, but I haven’t heard back from them yet. :( That’s actually how someone got the one there that I went back for, my store sent it out to another one. *Sighs* If only I had had money at the time.

Wow… that’s a lot to have read. Hats off to you!

Thank you! ^_^ All the comments too! It took me awhile, plus I was sharing that time with watching the game via YouTube, but I’ve done both finally. Now I just want my game to come in!! :P

And more posts, of course! HeH.
