Thank you, everybody who has been a part of the first month of Rule of Rose Mysteries!

Whether you posted comments (yay!) or just lurked, I appreciate your coming to my site and I hope that you found content here that increased your enjoyment of the Rule of Rose game.

What will the next month bring?

For one thing, I expect to post a document-based time-line for the time-period after Jennifer arrived at the orphanage (thus completing the time-line process begun with Document-based Time-line: Before Jennifer Arrived at the Orphanage).

This is part of my plan to assemble and organize collections of clues in such a way that others may quickly become masters of the mysteries of Rule of Rose in their own right: able to form well-informed opinions directly from the clues rather than having to rely on someone else’s opinion as an “authority”.

And of course, I will continue to post my own theories on how one might assemble the clues to solve the mysteries. Please post your agreements, disagreements, frustrations, counter-theories, and questions.

Or, continue to enjoy lurking in the shadows.

I get a lot of enjoyment thinking about these mysteries.

I hope you will too.

Thanks for the gift, Yuzo-kun! I like both artworks.

Yes, the Diana portrait IS terrific… professional quality.

I’ll definitely check out that site further.

Thank you for the links, Poker. I have a question: what is “the 8 mysterious objects” thing you talked about on gamefaqs frorums? I missed that topic.

—I have a question: what is “the 8 mysterious objects” thing you talked about on gamefaqs forums? I missed that topic.—

It refers to the objects arranged in front of the “Stray Dog Kidnaps Kidz” drawing. To find them you must go left, and through a gate, immediately after using the boarding pass to enter the orphanage grounds during the first (“The Little Princess”) chapter.

I’ll post something about that tomorrow for you.

I just recently discovered something new relating to those objects that I haven’t ever posted about before (and I doubt anybody else ever has either).

Hey there PokerNemesis! xD I just wanted to come out of lurk-mode and thank you for taking the time to write down your thoughts in this blog. :3 I no longer play RoR, but I was intrigued by all the mystery and storybooks, so I googled it, and found this site. I’m very glad I did. c:

I can’t contribute much, but I’ll be reading and waiting anxiously for your next post! n wn

    Thanks, Vanilla Cup. Welcome!

This blog is incredible. YOU are incredible. Have you considered becoming a private detective? I’m a writer myself, and coming up with a web of interconnecting lines of causality is tough…but dissecting someone else’s work and putting everything in a straight line (or as straight as it will go) is extremely difficult. Congrats on this achievement.

  13. PokerNemesis says:

    Welcome Silas Crane!

Thanks for the very kind words of praise.

Actually, I think that I am trying to think more like a writer than a private detective.

A detective tries to determine what actually happened, and deals with a world where coincidences exist and many observations might be irrelevant. But Rule of Rose is a work of art, and coincidence doesn’t play a role in an artful story the way that it might in real life. Nothing shows up in a work of art by chance, everything is by design.

So, assuming that everything in Rule of Rose is by design, I always ask myself: why would the author(s) have designed this or that to be the way it is?

My goal is not to determine what really happened, because nothing really happened, right? So I try to determine the back-story that the author(s) had in mind.

Unfortunately, the author(s) will probably never reveal to us the back-story.

So, ultimately, I am trying to create stories (which I call theories or hypotheses) that connect the dots of the game in what seems to me to be the most elegant way.

Sometimes it is frustrating for me because I feel I have a great story in mind, but it doesn’t connect the dots well, so I must discard it.

The rule of the game (that I have set for myself) is to restrain my creativity by not rejecting any dots (unless I feel that the authors have indicated that I should!).

So, although I truly don’t think about ever becoming a private detective, I will confess that I would like to be a published fiction writer one day and I hope that I have what it takes!

  14. Silas Crane says:

I often find myself thinking the way you are talking about. It ruins a lot of stories for me…movies, video games, novels. I always try to write stories that have a clear ending where all the little threads I’ve been tossing out are woven into a neat little thing (I hesitate to say “tapestry”) in the conclusion. I shy away from formulaic writing, but I think clarity is next to godliness. That said, sometimes it takes a mind-eff of a story (like Rule of Rose) to surprise you and make your writer’s brain work again. This blog…it’s great exercise!

Hey, all writers hope they have what it takes. (Somehow, I think you won’t struggle too much with character motivation and cause/effect!) There’s only one magic formula for getting better: read a lot and write a lot. If you have fiction you want someone to review, I would be happy to give it a read. I’ve been looking for more story-swapping friends. :)

So what got you into this whole mess? What made you want to start this blog and how long are you going to keep at it?
