okay I didn't actually read through ALL of the comments so forgive this if it's redundant but in comment #18, it's mentioned that Jennifer is not the only 'princess' in the game. I myself don't believe Jennifer's dead during the events of the game so I wanted to put forth a theory: what if the 'little princess, little princess' in the game over poem is actually Wendy and not Jennifer? This would kind of explain why 'today is the day of her funeral' if Jennifer isn't dead. I also think it makes sense, in that case, that 'everyone lived happily ever after' because Jennifer continues to remain ignorant of the horrors of her past. I would love comments or rebuttal on this.

Maybe "the adult Jennifer" had Astral Projection when she's dying somewhere, and in a state between life and death she's projecting the memories of her bitter childhood, just like near death experience.. because that's her most unforgettable traumatic events she ever had (when someone's dying, they usually thinking about nightmares/scary things/traumatic events). And since the first cutscene shows that "the adult Jennifer" waking up on the bus, then I believe in reality "the adult Jennifer" just had a tragic accident on a bus somewhere, before the "whole" game started... then you know the rest... hahahaha sorry if it sound silly :p

(I'mlate.I'mlate. ; m ; )
Reading Masq's first statement and the breaking up of the death scene...
(This will be a bit Far-Fetched theory) It made me think that it was possible that Jennifer died shortly after the deaths of the other orphans. She survived it and was the soul surviver of it as she was the crash that killed her parents - but there is nothing that hints she continued life after that. Looking back on her memories in the one upon a time chapter she mentions the Bus taking her to the Orphanage, making it seem the start was just an remake of her actual coming to the Orphanage. Makes me feel she died while the same age that she was when the massacre happened. Clueless to what could have caused the death.. Maybe from the shock went into coma and/or lost her memories of the event.
Then she died, relives her life and recalls it all. Relives it but also her soul returns to the Orphanage and re-encounters those from her past who died before her, and goes through a variation of her actual life. Then after going through it all she comes to terms with herself and her life's mistakes and moves past the darker realm that the other orphans are located on... and goes to the 'once upon a time' realm where she can look back on everything, do right in protecting brown and live in that sort of 'heaven'. She could be appearing as an adult the whole time because she thought herself as one. ( I have memories of when I was 12 months old and I for the longest of time recall it as being 3 years old. When I asked finally about it and got told 'no you were only 12 months' I was really shocked.) so it seems plausible that she'd re-envision herself as she imagined herself to be. Possibly she felt her inner-self appeared as Adult Jennifer and her body was just a child. She doesn't come to terms with being dead till the end when she runs to the light with Brown and returns to her previous appearance. Could also make sense to why Brown was beside her the whole time in the game because His soul stayed at the Orphanage as well and then travels beside her through her journey of recalling her life. Appearing older as well as to assist her better? Then the statement she makes at the end saying she'll protect him till she dies means more so 'forever' because She already has and in the form of 'heaven' she is in now with him... she never die. That sort of warm glow sepia appearance to the Once upon a time chapter could also be a way of representing it as a heavenly place. They don't show her leaving there, just locking Brown up and giving a smile as if she'll be certain to return again.

Like the movie 'The Others(2001)' They died but didn't realized it and went on living their lives as if that 'nightmare' of death they had the day before was just a dream. Living at their house until they come to realize they are no longer living.

Edit- Read more and I am on similar page as InsaneInquis. I think she died and her soul returned to the Orphanage. I personally believe 'Hell' is something we create for ourselves out of guilt and regret. So I feel she was in the 'Hell' of the orphanage until she came to terms with her regret and Guilt and moved onto the "heaven' of the orphanage.

I think maybe she had a near-death experience, you know those things people have where they like see a bright light and come back, but she dies if you get the bad ending and lives if you get the good one?

I think at the end it is more of Jennifah leaving her version of heaven within her mind perhaps....brown as poker said is more of a spirit guide than literally their brown was just guiding her back to her reality, in my opinion when jennifer leaves the orphanage at the end she is accepting that she can not change the past and that she must live on with the burden of keeping all of the kids and people alive with her...or something like that *w*

If Jen is dead, why would she look older?
Most "ghosts" look like they did when thy die, or younger.

It might be more of a mental breakdown sorta thing.

But the only thing that points to her death, in my opinion, it's when you get the good ending and she and Brown disappear in that white light. The fact is that Brown was already dead, but he got away with her. If she was alive, she would go out of her memories alone.

But it's certain that she survives the massacre, but after that we don't know if she lives or dies.

Welcome, Dustin Julian M. Domingo!
Dustin Julian M. Domingo wrote:

Maybe there’s something demonic in the orphanage’s area that causes Jennifer to be tortured again by her memories.Like the kind they use in Silent Hill.

The pattern of evidence we should weigh in consideration of that hypothesis is complex enough to deserve its own blog-post. I'll try to get to it soon.
